Our History
In 1964, few numismatic collectors in the South West region have decided to form a club to share their passion in coin collecting in response to an advertisement inserted in the South Western Times by Mr. D. R. Roberts. (Below was taken from the minutes book of the first meeting.)
The members have decided to get together once a month to complete their respective collection of a "bit of vanishing Australiana" as the decimal currency changeover draws near. These collections will prove invaluable to the future generations as well as new immigrants who would be able to see a bit of tangible history.
On the evening of Tuesday, 5th of January 1965, the first meeting was held and 15 members were present. The formation of club's first officers/committee were elected and decided that the club would be known as the South West Districts Coin Collectors Club and that meetings would be held on the 1st Tuesday of every month.
Since then, the club membership grew although some have retired and became honorary members but the legacy they left behind still continued on still in pursuit to educate not only the older members but also the young ones who would be future numismatists.
